This years expo has a lot in store for us and I mean a LOT! Ever since the release of the Wii and its outstanding success, its competitors are now copying that same technology in order to boost sales and give the Wii some competition. Heres the breakdown:
Microsoft – Microsoft is going to unveil the new system known as Project Natal to the whole world and how it measures up to motion control technology. Its set to debut 3 days before the E3 gaming convention, although it wont be on sale until later this year, Microsoft wants to build as much hype on this as possible.
Xbox 360 - The Xbox 360 has its hands full as well, rumor has it that Xbox is going to partner up with another industry famously known as Hulu.com. The Xbox already has Netflix as an option for movies and full relaxation and some time away from games. As for games, the Xbox will be releasing Halo Reach which is set to debut this holiday season on September 14th 2010 already got plenty of exposure from the earlier beta version trial and is going to get much more as time goes on. Gears of War 3 will also get a lot of attention and these 2 will be the biggest games for the Xbox 360.
Sony - Sony is coming in strong as well with its new, you guessed it, motion controllers. It was named Playstation Move and kind of looks like a colorful light bulb on top of a TV remote. Sony has been lagging a bit but is said to pick up once these bad boys release. Sony has also earlier revealed that they will start charging for the Playstation Network. Although this wont charge gamers for gameplay like the Xbox 360 and their Xbox live, it is set for users who want more premium things and the full extent of the Playstation Network. Rumor has it that Sony will be unveiling a new PSP at the E3 convention which is known as PSP 2 which is a upgrade from their PSP Go which many considered to be a flop. Heres where the good stuff happens, we all know 3D from the movie Avatar and Sony is going to implement that into our games. Starting soon, Sony will make downloadable content that will make many things appear in 3D. Although this might sound cool, its useless if you dont own one of Sony’s 3D TV’s.
Nintendo - The best has remained on top for a long time and they want to keep it that way. Nintendo biggest creations have already been leaked and the newest on is Nintendo’s new handheld called the 3DS. This amazing small piece of technology has big things in store for us like its 3D screen which shows all games and content in 3D without the use of glasses. A pretty big step up for Nintendo, it will definitely turn heads and is said Nintendo will be announcing the launch date this holiday season. We also have little information on what seems to be Nintendo’s attempt at making something that “relaxes” a person instead of thrill and excitement with the regular video games. To make it short, its similar to Wii Fit and reminds me of Yoga. Nintendo hasn’t disappointed before and I dont think they’re about to start. The greatest news of all has to be that a new Zelda game will be released which I am definitely going to get especially because of Nintendo’s last beautiful creation, Zelda: Twilight Princess. Also expect to see a new add on to the already wide known game Pikmin. They are both said to be shown at the E3 convention.
Activision Blizzard - For the worlds third largest publisher, expect to see alot from them as well as Call of Duty Black Ops updates. We will be seeing big titles from Blizzard such as the ever popular Starcraft 2 game for the PC which is said to be the biggest game in the decade and Blizzard’s very own World of Warcraft Cataclysm.
Entertainment Arts AKA EA - EA wants to kick off another Medal of Honor game so stay tuned for that because of its endless supply in of fun. Although its not quite going to measure up to Modern Warfare 2, its still expected to be big. EA is also revealing Star Wars The Old Republic which is going to be extremely fun especially because its going to be mass multiplayer. Its still gaining interest and is said to release in mid 2011. I will be putting up a trailer for this soon.
With all of this coming up, id start saving up for big titles that are going to be really worth it. I will be providing updates on the E3 convention and am planning on putting the convention videos here so be sure to check back. Ill see you on the battlefield!
