Hey everyone, just wanted everyone to know that I recently launched my own Youtube channel called the “Starcraft Top Ten plays.” This channel is specifically designed to capture league games best highlights and put them out for the world to see. These plays will be high level plays and will be evaluated based on clutch, micro, APM, skill, quickness and much more. Xbox 360 claims July sales

The Xbox 360 hasn’t been doing so hot these past few months, but shot up straight to the top in July thanks to its new sleek slim design of the black Xbox 360. Its more efficient, quiet, and looks great, what more could you want? The Xbox 360 hasn’t achieved a 1st spot since the release of Halo 3 in 2007! It ended up selling 440,000 copies and managed to outsell the Nintendo DS which has been on a rampage month after month grabbing the top spot, Nintendo doesn’t disappoint. Hardware sales were up 12%. As for games, EA did it again with NCAA Football 2011 hitting the top spots for both the Xbox 360 and the PS3 selling a total of 700,000 copies.
Where did Starcraft 2 land for the July sales you ask? Unfortunately even though its been named the game of the decade, the NPD doesn’t include PC games, bummer. Although I must say its extremely addicting and has kept me busy since its release date. It ended up selling 721,000 copies and DOUBLING the July 2009 figures! Yeah, game of the decade for a reason.

Halo Reach campaign trailer

This is the new campaign trailer for the upcoming Halo Reach game. I played the beta and must say it was pretty fun and there’s definitely some new twists and turns to it. Here’s the trailer:

Looks cool right? especially since its the last Halo game ever. Surprising that those words came to mouth, since there has been more Halo games than I can remember.

Whats the big deal about Starcraft 2?

So recently, alot of people are eager for the arrival of Starcraft 2 tomorrow which is July 27th. But others who have never played the game still question about why its such a big deal, its just another game right? WRONG! If you’ve never played Starcraft, you need to! It was one of the best real time strategy games ever made and what made it so great was its balance. Every unit was balanced according to the other two races. If you didn’t know already, Starcraft 2 is composed of 3 races, which are Zerg, Terran and Protoss. Balancing units is very difficult because when one is over powered, you hear one side complain and when the other is over powered, the other side complains. Its very hard to achieve balance which Starcraft did.

Now is the release of the sequel to one of the best games ever made and everyone is excited. In Korea, its like a sport to them and even have tournaments and live TV broadcasting! So its a pretty big deal, Starcraft 2 is said to become the best game of the decade. Some are still questioning if the game should be released this early? Although Blizzard believes its accomplished its goals in balancing, making the campaign, and hosting battle.net, have they taken the opinion of the players?? As a first hand beta user, I believe that balancing still needs to be done in some aspects.

Some units are just very very hard to defeat and others don’t make sense of how one unit conquers another. For example, I don’t think 2 Vikings should be able to take out a Battlecruiser. With 2 times the cost, it has to be able to take out something as small as a Viking. As for the release tomorrow, I like playing the game and will be playing it for a long time, even though I believe some balancing needs to be done, it can be managed.

Real ID being used in forums

Recently, game developers everywhere have been discussing a way to diminish the presence of trolls and spam on forums. Trolls are the name for users that cause havoc and mayhem on forums while being anonymous. Blizzard recently planned to eliminate this through the use of their new Real ID system. Real ID is something that they created to reducing the amount of chaos that is on the forums by connecting their accounts with their real information. So every time someone posts a topic, all of their real information including name, last name, account name, and other information will be revealed.

Of course, not too many people are happy with this idea, trolls and gamers alike. Trolls need to be anonymous, if they are exposed, it ruins their good name. Players want to remain anonymous for the sole purpose of keeping their identity a secret, why would we want anybody to know our real names? Very few people liked the idea, and on the main Starcraft 2 forums were complaints and outrage against Blizzard for making such a move. Some have even vowed to not purchase the game because of this idea.

World of Warcraft fans were also rallying against Blizzard because they are also included in the Real ID scandal.

“I can’t even begin to imagine why you would do this.”

“I will never post in a gaming forum where my real name is displayed. Ever.”

These are some posts by some angry gamers in an effort that Blizzard might reconsider their plan to change Real ID. Now we have to wait and see if Blizzard will hold strong until July 27th when Starcraft 2 is released, or will they be overrun by angry players and be forced to remove this ridiculous system?

Today I saw a video of a person I believe to be the future of gaming. Yes, those are pretty big words, but this guy deserves it. This guy, named Johnny Lee, has invented a way for a person to play any game in actual 3D, meaning the objects pop up in front of you. Its amazing how he did it and link you to the video, but I was mind blown when I saw this. He calls it head tracking, which is essentially what it sounds like, the Wii capturing head movements and putting you in a 3D world. Its like looking through a different world through a window as Johnny says it, here is the video:

Amazing right? He makes Nintendo look like amateurs, and definitely needs to be hired by them!

Super Mario bros on the streets?

I thought this was pretty cool, someone designed himself playing Super Mario bros with a twist, the tv is the sidewalk. Really cool effects and I enjoyed it so I thought itd put it up here. Check it out:

Creative right? It shows the whole game and he managed to beat it in 7 minutes. Fun, addictive, creative. Is there anything Mario isn’t?

Lebron shown on NBA 2K11

Ever since Lebron James joined the Miami Heats, it will be changing the basketball games like NBA 2K11 and completely changing the statistics of the players and teams. Here’s a picture of how he will appear in the game:

So how will this move impact the game itself? According to Jeff Thomas, the VP of Sports development, its still undecided. Its still to early to decide how this will impact anything. Of course, the Heat’s will most likely improve, and this year’s ranking will reflect on the performance.

Video games sales drop

May was a sad time indeed for the gaming industry, the total sales of games, hardware, and accessories dropped a whole 5% and that brings it down to $823.5 million in losses. Hardware sales lost a whole 20% losing $241.5 million in May alone, this is most likely due to the price drop done by Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft. Well if its going to cost them that much, why cut the prices? Simple, its because people stopped buying! When a new game comes out, it used to cost $50 for older consoles like the Xbox, Playstation, Dreamcast, etc. But now that newer consoles come out, the resources used to make them increases along with better storylines, gameplay and graphics for today’s gamers.

Today when a new game comes out, the price is usually around $60 and that’s alot! Its not just me who thinks so but almost everyone, which results in games not being bought because its too expensive. We want our money’s worth in games, so if a games going to cost that much, then it better be good. Back onto the subject, when big game industry’s drop prices, people come to buy all kinds of stuff because its saving them alot of money which they like, but at the same time is causing big companies some harm, like that huge $823.5 million figure.

Although gaming software rose 4 percent to $466.3 million and that’s thanks to the hit western style game Red Dead Redemption. Sales of video game accessories rose 3 percent to $115.7 million The best selling accessory was the 1600 Microsoft points card. Due to the bad economy and all these other problems, its becoming difficult for both the producer and the consumer, well see if this cycle continues.
